Curriculum Vitae of Prof. Ioannis Koukiadis

Academic, political career and other activities:

He was born in Trikeri (Volos) on November 11, 1940.

In 1963 he obtained his first degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, from the Faculty of Law.

In 1966 he was appointed attorney of the Thessaloniki's Law Union and today he is an attorney of Supreme Court of Appeal.

From 1967 until 1970 he received a scholarship granted by the French Government and was engaged in post graduate studies in Paris.

In 1971 he was awarded a Ph.D by the University of Paris with a grade "summa cum laudae".

In 1973-74 he continued his post-doctoral studies in Munich and Hamburg receiving a scholarship granted by the Humbold-Stiftung Foundation.

In 1976 he was elected an assistant Professor at the Aristotle University of Thessalloniki, Faculty of Civil Law.

In 1978 he was elected unanimously as a Professor and he took up the chair of Labor Law at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Faculty of Law. He lectured Social Policy's courses in the Department of Economics at the same University.

In 1985 as well as in 1987, he was elected head of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Faculty of Law.

He has been President of the Board of the Organization of Mediation and Arbitration (I.A.O. Í.1876/1990) since 1991. He is Vice-chairman of the Tellogleio Art Foundation in Thessaloniki and President of the Law Association of Northern Greece.
Since 1973 he has been married to Agelliki Karali, who is a lawyer and has a son named Dimitris, who is also a graduate of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Faculty of Law.

He is the author of 8 books including the three-volume book called "Labour Law-Labor relations" (individual and collective) and of numerous articles published in daily newspapers and magazines. Coeditor of R. Blanpain's book titled "European Social Law. Before and after Maastricht". His latest book titled "The social Europe-searching for the new social acqui" was published in December of 2000.

He has participated in many international conventions with similar proposals. He was a Lecturer to foreign Universities and waded in international conventions about European matters, including the 1st European Conference of the social representatives (Barcelona) and the 2nd similar Conference in Kazablanca.

Since July 1999 , he was elected a MEP at the Euro-elections representing PA.SO.K.(Greek Socialist Party). He is member of the European Parliament's Committees on Employment and Social Affairs and on Petitions, as well as a substitute member of the European Parliament's Committee on Legal Affairs and Internal Market.He is a vice-chairman of the delegation to the Parliamentary Cooperation committees and delegations for relations with kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Mongolia. He is also a substitute member of the delegation to the EU-Bulgaria joint Parliamentary Committee as well as a member of temporary Committee on Human Genetics and other new technologies of modern medicine.

He speaks Greek, French and German.
